How to Use ChatGPT to Write an Essay (Real World Example)

How to Use ChatGPT to Write an Essay (Real World Example)

Should you use ChatGPT to write an entire essay and pass it as your own? That's between you and your conscience, your pastor, God, barber, etc.

For "entertainment" purposes, I'll demonstrate some helpful approaches on how to write an essay using ChatGPT.

Be as Specific as Possible

You can't just write in the prompt, "write me an essay about the implications of ChatGPT in the classroom."

You have to give it some direction. Always think as ChatGPT as an assistant.

Give it specifics of your essay:

  • How long should the essay be?
  • Should it be broken into subheadings?
  • What topics you want it to cover?
  • Do you want simple vocabulary or academic level vocabulary?

Write as Much Detail in Your Prompts as Possible

A better prompt for the example above would be:

Let's write an essay on the following topic: The Implications of ChatGPT in College Classrooms. Write it using academic level vocabulary and writing style. Make it 2000 words long. Break up each main idea into subheadings.

The details you feed it will depend on each case and specific requirements by your teacher, professor, boss, etc.

ProTip #1

When ChatGPT gives you a long response, like a 2000 word essay, it tends to stop halfway. Simply type "continue" in the prompt and it will resume writing.

Keep Molding Your Results

Once you get a good result form ChatGPT, you can keep molding it. You can ask it things like:

  • Expand more on the subject of Ethical Concerns
  • Do not talk about "Booted Student Engagement"
  • Start the essay with an intriguing question.
  • Give me 10 alternative essay titles.

The possibilities endless—the world is your oyster.

ProTip 2: Run your final result into Grammarly

A More Personal Approach to Writing an essay with ChatGPT

A more accurate way to get ChatGPT to write about exactly what you want, is to give it an outline.

List the topics you want to talk about, then feed into the prompt. Here's an example prompt:

And the answer is looking solid, writing about exactly what I told it, from the outline that came from my head. Again, remember to mold it, ask for more info, remove stuff, etc. Remember, the world. Your oyster. Oh yeah, remember to give it a Grammarly pass.
